THE ALEXANDRIA VOLUNTEER FIREfighters Association
was founded in 1963 when a local man tragically lost his wife in a house fire. There was no local fire department and the surrounding towns
were too late. After the loss of his wife, the man donated the land where his house once stood, and on it built the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department.
Fifty-five years later, the original purpose and cause of The Alexandria Fire Department is still holding strong with over 20 volunteer men and women who respond at all times of the day and night to assist those in need. In 2016 the Townspeople of Alexandria voted to take on fiscal responsibility for the Department. The deed was turned over to the town, and it became a municipal department. The Corporation that was the Department changed its name and became the Alexandria Volunteer Firefighters Association (AVFA).
Volunteer members of the AVFA continue to strive, through fundraisers and events to support the original purpose that began so many years ago.
